Meet our Principal: Chamekia Fields

Hello McNeill Families!
My name is Chamekia Fields, and I am honored to serve as the Principal of McNeill Elementary. I’m a native Texan, born and raised in Big Sandy, Texas, and I have dedicated over 20 years to education—with experience as a teacher, literacy coach, and assistant principal.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Tyler and completed my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston-Victoria. Throughout my career, I have been privileged to work in various roles across Lamar CISD, most recently as Assistant Principal of Instruction at Lamar Junior High, where I helped support academic growth and a positive learning environment.
My passion lies in nurturing a school culture where every student feels valued, challenged, and supported. I believe that when educators, families, and community members come together as a team, there is no limit to what we can achieve. I am committed to fostering a safe, joyful, and high-performing environment at McNeill, where excellence and innovation ignite every child’s potential.
Outside of school, I am married to my high school sweetheart and a proud mom of three amazing daughters. I love reading and find my greatest peace by the ocean—places that inspire curiosity and calm.
I am truly excited to join the McNeill family and look forward to working with all of you to make this a wonderful year full of learning, growth, and joy.

25-26 Theme Reveal: "Ignite the Spark. Fuel the Future!"

At McNeill Elementary, we believe every child holds a spark of potential—and this year, we’re lighting the way to something extraordinary.
“Ignite the Spark, Fuel the Future” is more than a motto. It’s our commitment to a school year filled with innovation, curiosity, and joyful learning—where students discover their passions, grow their confidence, and build skills that will carry them far beyond the classroom.
This year, you’ll see that spark come alive in every hallway, every classroom, and every smile. Together, we’re not just preparing students for today—we’re shaping leaders, creators, and problem-solvers for tomorrow.

Electronic Device Policy

Important update!

Please note a new Texas law that will go into effect at the start of the 2025–2026 school year and directly impacts student use of personal communication devices during the instructional day.

During the 89th Texas Legislative Session, House Bill 1481 was passed into law. This bill prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the instructional school day and while on school property.
